CQ To All ![]() This is Kevin, AD8Q, with some personal information that you may or may not care about. First, I have been involved in radio communications since age nine. I enjoy the entire spectrum from "DC to Daylight", but can usually be found around the 2 meter or 23 centimeter bands. When conditions are good during cycle 24, I can be found on 10 meters around 29.242 Mhz. (AM & FM). I'm 90 percent phone and 8 percent digital. As for The other 2 percent??? I'm currently semi-retired. The hobbies I enjoy most are - Ham Radio, firearms, radio control models, skiing (water & snow), snowboarding, boating, playing My guitars and getting out of yard work. Once in awhile, I even play the stock market. My one true passion is baseball (playing more than watching!!!), which also explains my old call sign. The K's were for three strikeouts. I am not currently, nor have I ever been affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan. I was discharged from the Air Force in 81 after serving 4 years as a Comm/Nav specialist. After moving back to So. Cal. with My wife and two children, I went to work for Andrew Calif.Corp. as an Antenna Design Engineer where I did R&D, Prototype work, Design & construction, Test, Field Assembly and Field Service for all types of antennas including broadcast television, Military and Commercial end users. This was from 81 thru 86. I left Andrew to design antennas and antenna test systems for Dayton Granger, who had just purchased the Rockwell Collins Antenna Division in Costa Mesa, CA. This lasted about 1 year. At this point, I decided to try the radio broadcast engineering field. I was hired by KCAL AM & FM in San Bernardino, CA. I was the Chief Engineer for about 8 months and then said "Enough is Enough". The G.M. was a real "Richard Cranium". The next stop was Lockheed Aircraft Service Co. in Ontario, CA. I was hired by Systems & Test Operations and was able to work on some of the coolest projects in the world, including the late King Husein's (JY1) personal L 10 11 jet. Most other work was on C-130 H Turbo Prop aircraft (Rivet Rider, Combat Talon, Gunship, etc, etc). This lasted about 2 years. I went back to Chief Engineering for Anaheim Broadcasting who also now owned KCAL AM & FM. KEZY and KPZE where added to My work load. I must admit it was allot more fun this time and I did side work for the new G.M. at His Grants Pass, OR station. This adventure lasted just under 1 year. It was now time to start My own company. Capcomm sold and installed TVRO, MATV, CATV, Surveillance and Music/Paging Systems for hotels, motels and restaurants. A few of My clients were Charlie Browns, King- 8, Don Jose's/Ricardos, Ruben's/Coco's and Pizza Chalet. I sold this company in 93. And now back to Andrew Corp. This time I was responsible for the design of antennas from 500 Mhz thru 40 Ghz. We pioneered and then perfected linear scaning of antenna array E-plane patterns. I am quite good at Az. pattern development. This small facility was in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I left in 2000 and am now semi-retired as I stated earlier. I'm now part owner of a small antenna company and design all of our current product line, from 450 Mhz thru 46 Ghz. Well, solong for now. If you want to get in touch, you can e-mail me at - ad8q@earthlink.net, or on myspace at- http;//www.myspace.com/papacaprio.
