QRV as DV5PO from a small jungle village named Locsoon, near Borongan inEastern Samar since August 2008, previously operating from same QTH as DU5/ZL4PO which expired July 2009. Population of the village is about 500, and I am the only westerner living in the village. Our home is right on the shoreline, only 30 metres from hightide overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean and inshore reefs. Antennas are TH6DXX tribander up 17M, plus dipoles for 80, 40 & 30M. I enjoy low terrestrial noise levels, typically S2 or S1, sometimes even zero noise on the higher bands. We have the usual amazing tropical electrical storms with the sky lit up almost continuously with lightning sometimes. I usually disconnect all the antennas and go do something else when the weather is like this ! My preferred modes are CW with some SSB, in the bands from 80M to 10M. QRV most days looking for DX. I am operational onPSK31 & RTTY occasionally, mainly 30/20/17M. also operate SSTV in Scottie1/2/DX modes on 14230KHz. My homecall is ZL4PO but I have been retired & living in the Philippines since 2007, please send all QSL's to DV5PO Please QSL direct with$2U.S. and reply envelope. The currency exchangers here do not accept US currency prior to 1995, so please check the date your green stamp! The Post Office here will only give me 20 pesos (about US$0.40) in exchange for an IRC, and insist that I make up the difference in postage! Even though I have shown them the wording on the IRC'S they won't co-operate, even though Philippines is a member of the UPU. Postage to Japan/Asiaisnow 45 pesos, and to the rest of the World is between 50 to 60 pesos so unfortunately $1US no longer covers the cost of mailing (except to JA &Asia) I am pleased to say that I QSL 100% and usually do the return QSL within one week. Also, please separate the gum-flap from the envelope as it is very humid here and the envelope frequently arrives already sealed! a little wax paper does the job nicely. No eQSL's please. As far as I am aware, DV5PO is the only licenced amateur station operating from anywhere on Samar or Eastern Samar on HF. There are a few other DU5's on HF, but they are operating from Tacloban on the island of Leyte, about 4 hours by road from here. 73 de Lester (Les) DV5PO ZL4PO, ex DU5/ZL4PO, ZL5AP, ZL4PO/C, ZL7PO, KC4USV, BW4/ZL4PO, team memberBQ9P, VK9ML Last modified: 2012-04-24 11:02:12, 2576 bytes cached
