The Royal Naval Amateur Radio Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The picture shows the original meeting of the Society in June 1960. To mark the event, a special event callsign has been issued - GB50RNARS. The callsign will be used from various locations in the UK throughout 2010.
Please QSL only via the RNARS QSL Bureau Manager, Marc Litchman G0TOC who will forward your cards to the appropriate operator. In addition to GB50RNARS, a number of associated Radio Societies will also be running special event stations. The Belgian Marine Amateur Radio Society will be using: ON50RN, the Danish OZ50RN and the Netherlands Marine Amateur Radio Club will be using the following callsigns: PA50RNARS;PA0VLA;PB50RNARS;PC50RNARS; PE50RNARS; PF50RNARS; PG50RNARS and PH50RNARS. A 50th anniversary award has been designed for the RNARS and is available to stations who hear or work members of the RNARS between 1st January 2010 and 31st December 2010. Each RNARS member station worked/heard counts 1 point but Special Event stations run by the RNARS (including the Belgian and Netherlands RNARS special event stations) will count 2 points. The award will be issued to those who achieve 50 points. Mixed modes are allowed but a station can only be counted ONCE for the award regardless of the number of times, bands or modes worked/heard. The award application form is available for download on the RNARS web site - www.rnars.org.uk QSL cards are not required for the award. A celebration dinner has been organised at HMS Collingwood in Fareham on 26th June. To book your places, please contact Ray G3KOJ. The cost is only £35. There will also be a special Anniversary get-together and dinner in August and will be held in Coventry in the centre of the UK. It is hoped that we will have a special event callsign for the weekend and if licenced, you will be able to operate the station. Any RNARS members who wish to attend this weekend function, please contact the Society Vice Chairman Doug G4BEQ. His contact details are also on the RNARS web site. We welcome anyone who wishes to attend either event and you need not be a member of the Society to book your tickets.
