GB6MW is a special event station run by Cray Valley Radio Society in conjunction with Meopham Windmill Trust as part of National Mills Weekend We plan to be active on HF (SSB and CW), 2m (SSB & FM) and 4m (FM) on Saturday and Sunday 12/13th May 2012 "Mills on the Air" : 12 -13th May 2012 (UK National radio event coordinated by Denby Dale ARS ) Also see PD6MILL for details of Mills in the Netherlands operating as part of Dutch National Windmill and Water Pumping station weekend
The restored windmill is a six-sided smock design built around 1821 located next to the picturesque village green. The interior of mill is open to the public on Sunday 13th May from 11am till 5pm BST as part of the National Mills weekend celebration. Visitors will be able to explore the fascinating interior which includes an impressive main drive shaft made from a “recycled” ship’s mast from the nearby historic former Chatham Royal Dockyard. CVRS plan to set up and operate GB6MW on Saturday 12th May when the mill grounds are open. On Sunday 13th visitors will be able see the GB6MW stations inside and outside the mill and have a chat with the operators who look forward to explaining more about the station and amateur radio.
