Bromsgrove & District Radio Amatuer Club have obtained the above call sign to celebrate the 75th aniversary of BBC DROITWICH long wave transmitter call sign 5XX with its 700ft (212 mtrs) masts which are 600ft (182 mtrs) apart with the "Flying T" aerial rigged between them, both of the masts are insulated from the ground and can be used as a verticals, the two smaller masts  are used for medium wave transmission and were erected in the 1980s. The long wave transmitter has an output of 500Kw (2 x 250kw) on 198 Khz and is the UKs most powerful long wave transmitter and has been heard as far away as Canada hence we will be operating 2 miles north of BBC Droitwich at the  club shack from the 17/10/09 to 13/11/09. Salt was mined in the area as far back as Roman times a very good reason to site the transmitter at this location. There is plenty of information on BBC Droitwich on the internet also on you tube there is an 10 minute long old black white film of its constuction. If you wish to exchange qsl  cards via the bureau please e mail info to gb75xx@googlemail.com and a card will be sent to you. If you wish to qsl direct please send to G3KWK info on QRZ.com plus $2 or 1 irc. Uk stations of course a SAE. SWL reports are of course very welcome, you can also use EQSL
