August 10 2011, Budapest

Haros Radio Club, HA5HRK

At midnight on August 14 2011 the Budapest television broadcasting transmitter will cease operation on VHF channel one. The termination of Broadcasting Band I transmissions after 54 years of television broadcasting will be followed by four days of ham radio activity organized by Haros Radio Club, using the antenna system of the former TV transmitter. This activity at the special event station HG50MHZ is a memorial event celebrating more than half a century’s operation and at the same time publicizes the closure of a broadcasting transmitter which is well known to the six metre amateur radio community.

The webpage of HG50MHZ http://www.hg50mhz.tvsummarizes the 54 year history of Budapest channel one television broadcasting, the 6 years of HA activities on the six metre (50MHz) band and additionally provides details of the special event station. Channel one television broadcasts from Budapest are well known by radio amateurs all over the world and have in the past been widely used as a propagation indicator.

This period of amateur radio activity will allow two way communications facilitating actual amateur radio contacts utilizing the antenna system of the television transmitter. The web-site http://www.hg50mhz.tvwill also broadcast a video and audio stream in real-time from the station’s operating position, thus everybody will be able to listen to how his or her transmission can be copied at the former television station. The chat and guestbook pages of the site also provide another means of communications amongst the interested amateur radio community.

The location of the station is at the Szechenyi-hill broadcast station of Antenna Hungaria (JN97LL). Station operators are either employees of Antenna Hungaria who are licensed radio amateurs or are members of the Haros Radio Club. The planned modes of operation are: CW, SSB, FM and digital. Besides being available for normal tropospheric and sporadic E modes of propagation EME earth-moon-earth experiments are also planned at HG50MHZ.

HA5HRK initiated 6m and 4m ham radio operation in Hungary:

*First 50 MHz Licences in Hungary*

Budapest, 29 July, 2005.

HA5HRK

Three experimental radio licences signed and issued today for three amateur radio organizations permits restricted amateur radio usage of the 50 MHz band for the first time in Hungary for 65 stations.

The licence is valid for a period of 30 days starting 1 August 2005. The aim of the experiment is to study whether amateur radio usage of the 50 MHz band on a secondary basis causes interference in the reception of broadcasting stations. The frequency range permitted for the experiment is 50.0500 - 50.5000 MHz, and the licence is valid for all operating modes, including FM and digital modes, like - as an example - PSK. Maximum effective radiated power (ERP) however is limited to 5 Watts.

The original licence request was submitted by Haros Radio Club (HA5HRK) in June 2005. It was preceded by intensive preparatory work, which included - inter alia - the studying of European licencing practices and the history of opening the band for amateur radio usage in countries with similar circumstances, the coexistence of amateur radio stations and broadcasting stations, propagation and other phenomena of the 50 MHz band. The licencing authority was very cooperative and decided to broaden the circle of stations in the experiment by inviting members of two other amateur radio organizations to participate. All three organizations have submitted their lists of participanting stations, and the three licences issued today contain a total of 65 stations.

The quick and positive response of the National Communications Authority is exemplary and reflects the authority's professional attitude and willingness for cooperation, which may in the future lead to a more general permission of amateur radio usage of the 6m band.

We hope that these radio amateurs, with their experience, international reputation and the geographical location of their stations mean guarantee to the success and professionalism of the experiment.

Stations licenced to work on 6m between 1-30 August 2005:

HA0DU, HA0HO, HA0HW, HA0LC, HA1AG/p, HA1FV, HA1RS, HA1UF/p, HA1WD, HA1XY, HA1YA, HG1Z, HA2RD, HA2SX, HA2VR, HG2ECZ, HA3MQ, HA3MY, HA3UU, HA4DX, HA4XG, HA4YF, HA5AK, HA5CBA, HA5DI, HA5HK, HA5HRK, HA5JI, HA5KDQ, HA5KHC, HA5LN, HA5LV, HA5MA, HA5MS, HA5OV, HA5PT, HA5RSB, HA5TMK, HA5UK, HA5VW, HA5VZ/7, HA5WH, HA5XXA, HA5XYZ, HA6KNB, HA6NL, HA6NN, HA6OI, HA6ZB, HA7CR, HA7EG, HA7MB, HA7P, HA7PB, HA7TM, HA7UG, HA7VC, HG7NS, HG7WFM, HA8BE, HA8BI, HA8BS, HA8IB, HA8MV, HA9OZD

During the experiment, a beacon is planned to be operational on 50.050 MHz by HA5AK.

Budapest, 29 June, 2007. HA5HRK

An experimental radio licence was signed and issued today for Haros Radioklub that permits radio usage of the 70 MHz band for the first time in Hungary for 30 radio amateurs. The licence is valid for a period of 30 days starting 1 July 2007. The aim of the experiment is to study propagation of radio waves in the 70 MHz band where all FM broadcasting was stopped in February. The frequency range permitted for the experiment is 70.000 - 70.500 MHz, and the licence is valid for all operating modes, CW, SSB, narrow band FM and digital modes like JT6M. Maximum effective radiated power (ERP) is limited to 1kW. The original request was submitted in April. In spite of lack of Radioamateur service allocation of the band the National Communications Authority responded quickly and cooperatively. In the experiment we have to identify ourselves by “call name” beside our ham radio callsign. The call name is composed by a prefix “70m” and a suffix of amateur radio callsign.

70M1BVC HG1BVC 70012.5kHz JN87FI beacon 70M1FV HA1FV 70M1WD HA1WD 70M1XY HA1XY 70M1YA HA1YA 70M2RD HA2RD 70M2SU HA2SU 70M2SX HA2SX 70M3MQ HA3MQ 70M4XG HA4XG 70M5CJ HA5CJ 70M5CJ2 HA5CJ/P 70M5CUT HG5CUT 70M5HRK HA5HRK 70M5KDR HA5KDR 70M5KDR2 HA5KDR/P 70M5LV HA5LV 70M5MA HA5MA 70M5PT HA5PT 70M5TI HA5TI 70M5UY HA5UY 70M5XA HG5XA 70M7BVB HG7BVB 70037.5kHz JN97QK beacon 70M7CR HA7CR 70M8BI HA8BI 70M8BI2 HA8BI/P 70M8BR HA8BR 70M8BS HA8BS 70M8KL HA8KL 70M8MV HA8MV 70M9MDP HA9MDP

We hope that these radio amateurs, with their experience, international reputation and the geographical location of their stations mean guarantee to the success and professionalism of the experiment. Our long term goal is to contribute to the joint efforts of 70MHz allocation for amateur radio service in Hungary and worldwide.
