HB9O, the amateur radio station at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne is on air. It was rebuilt (2010) within the Hall of Aviation and Space Travel. The new radio station HB9O is arranged much as one would normally expect to find at the home of a radio amateur - excepting the plethora of video monitors. Stations like this one enable radio amateurs to hook up wirelessly with other enthusiasts all over the world. A pair of radio operators works the station HB9O on three days every week - Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday -, demonstrating and explaining the wireless medium to visitors. Thanks to a special license from the Federal Office of Communications, interested visitors can themselves man the microphone under supervision from a licensed radio amateur (HB9.) and communicate worldwide over the airwaves. At times when HB9O is off the air, visitors can scan through the high-frequency jungle on two screens, or select among a variety of fixed frequencies (broadcast radio, amateur radio, marine and aircraft bands). Foreign visitors (HAMs) are always welcome! Pse contact us by mail. More information about HB9O is available at USKA
