The year 2008 is the 550th anniversary of King Mathias coming to the trone of Hungary. The year 2008 may also be considered as a symbol of Renaissance because in the present era our world is changing profoundly. The word 'Renessince' means renewal, revival and exploration of the new while the old is still respected. The 'Year of Renaissance - 2008' is meant to address thoughtful people of our days in different spheres of life who are suspectible to cultural issues and novelties.

Mátyás király trónra lépésének 550. évfordulóját és a Reneszánsz Évet ünnepeljük az idén. Ez alkalomból működteti a Bajcsy Rádióklub (HA5KKC) 2008. jún. 30-ig, a Jánoshalma Városi Rádióklub (HA8KVK) pedig júl-1-jétől dec,31.ig a HG550REX hívójelű adóállomást. (A QSL ügyintéző HA5GY). Oklevelet igényelhetnek mindazok, akik 2008-ban forgalmaznak a HG550REX-szel és 5 különböző HA-állomással, továbbá legalább 3 ország 2-2 állomásával az itt felsoroltak közül: I, OE, OK, TA, YO és YU. A kérvényhez az összeköttetések szokásos adatait tartalmazó jegyzéket is csatolni kell. Költségtérítés: hazaiktól 1000 Ft, külföldiektől 10 euró. We commemorate the 550th anniversary of King Mathias Rex's acceding to the throne, and the Year of the Renaissance. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Bajcsy Radio Club (HA5KKC) and the Jánoshalma Civic Radio Club (HA8KVK) operate the HG550REX call (the former: up to the 30th of June 2008; the latter: from the 1st of July up to the 31st of December). (The QSL administrator is HA5GY).

All who make contact with HG550REX in 2008 and 5 other HA-stations, furthermore at least with 2 stations from 3 of the specified countries (I, OE, OK, TA, YO, YU) can apply for a certificate. You have to attach the list which contains the usual datas of the QSOs.  Refund of expenses: 1000 HUF from natives, 10 Euros from foreigners.
