I was licensed K5OOR in 1957 as a teenager. My first rig was a homebrew CW Novice rig built by elmer, Herb Smith W5JUW. Later, after getting my general, Herb built a VFO and a AM Modulated transmitter. Later, I built a Heathkit DX-40 and VF-1. My first antenna was a Windom Antenna with the help of my Dad and our home-mode wooden supports. I worked 15 and 75 meter phone and did not know how good I had it. After highschool, I joined the Navy, married had kids and my amateur interests suffered but not my love for the hobby. So here I am now 50 years later still enjoying the hobby. My equipment is the Elecraft K2 kit and my HF Packer-Amp. I keep busy developing ham construction projects and enjoying portable operations. I built my homebrew amplifier for the K2. This MOSFET Linear Amplifier, boosts 2W drive to 35-40W. A compact little box which is used by the backpack crowd. The HFpacker-Amp home construction project has sent out around the world for the past 5 years and in it's 3rd generation.
