Dating back to 1927, the United Radio Amateur Club (URAC) serves the Los Angeles harbor area from San Pedro, California with members from nearby communities. URAC placed 1st in the nation in the first and second ARRL Field day operating events in 1933 and 1934. 10-10 International Net members welcome collecting our #99. For more club information please check out www.k6aa.org. Our primary field operations site is Angels Gate Park overlooking the Point Fermin Lighthouse and the Korean Bell. This former Fort MacArthur upper reservation overlooks the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors and the Pacific Ocean. This location also provides a great location for the annual ARRL Field Day operations and a control point for various public service events we routinely support.
In 1987, the Los Angeles Maritime Museum (LAMM) invited URAC to become one of its volunteer groups to educate visitors on radio communication. Thus began a relationship that has provided a meeting place and home for our K6AA club station. Situated on the main channel of Los Angeles Harbor in what was once a ferry building, our antennas are behind the clock tower 21 meters above salt water. Club members operate the station during most normal museum hours, demonstrating communications to everyone from classes of local school children to museum visitors from all over the globe. We look forward to working you or having you visit our station.
During the annual Museum Ship Weekeend sponsored by the Battleship New Jersey, NJ2BB, we activate the Tug Angels Gate, an Army tug (ST-695) that was turned over to the LA Harbor Department at the end of WW II. It is now part of the museum's history and is maintained and operated by another LAMM volunteer group, the Tug Boyz.
The normal LAMM hours are 1000 to 1700 Tuesday through Sunday. The museum is closed on Monday. For driving directions look up 600 Sampson Way, San Pedro, CA 90731 on Mapquest or Google. For more information including holiday closures please check out http://www.lamaritimemuseum.org.

QSL's may be sent to the address of the trustee listed above who will insure they are routed to our club's QSL manager who will respond with a "hard card.". We require that all domestic requests include a SASE. Cards from DX stations should be sent via the ARRL Incoming QSL Bureau and will be responded to via the ARRL Outgoing QSL Bureau. The club does not maintain computer logs and does not participate in eESL or the ARRL's LOTW.
