I begin hamming in the mid-1960s from my 'Elmer's shack,' K7VAT Gary Gompf (W7FG SK). I became ‘hooked’ after receiving my first QSL card from KL7CKC, Bob, complete with a background of an Alaskan sled-dog team. Licensed novice, WN7DEO and then General, WA7DEO until 1993 when I received vanity call, K7VK. Mostly retired, I'm expanding my ham radio enthusiasm to digital communications (the silent mode which my xyl appreciates). I enjoy operating battery-portable and am out 'mountain-topping' many spring/summer days. I enjoy operating 160 through 70 cm, concentrating on the upper HF bands and six-meter portable while camping. At home I run an IC 7000 into an 80-meter horizontal loop for the lower frequencies and a 5 band yagi for the higher frequencies. Satellite array is Cushcraft 2 meter and 70 cm 10-element yagis. I use the 7th QSL bureau and please a SASE for direct QSLs. My procrastinated 2012 winter ham-radio project is entering previous logbooks into LoTW including satellite QSOs many as WA7DEO through AO10 & AO13. Hope to hear/see/work you on the bands. 73.
