Have been a licensed radio amateur since 1981. First callsign was KA4SKB. Upgraded to General in 1984 and obtained "one by three" callsign N4OKX at that time. Upgraded to Advanced in 1987 and left it at that until '99 when I upgraded to Extra in protest of the FCC's plan to eliminate morse code as a requirement for HF operating privileges (took and passed the 20wpm morse test). Moved across the Ohio river from Louisville, KY to Harrison county, Indiana in 2000, applied for and received the K9GX call. Am an active DXer and Contester. Favorite contests are the January and August NAQPs, November Sweepstakes and the IARU HF Championship. N4OKX and K9GX has placed First in it's respective category and state in the NAQP and SS contests. The current QTH is a little ranch I share with 3 dogs and 5 cats. The station consists of a Yaesu FT1000 and ICOM 746 for HF work (yes I'm crazy enough to try SO2R) and mono band VHF radios for 6 and 2 meters. I have one 100ft Rohn 45 tower in place which supports a Force Twelve C4XL tribander with 2 elements on 40m. A 7 element 6 meter EF-706 sits atop the mast on this tower. The wire antennas at K9GX were destroyed in a terrible ice storm in January, 2009. I lost a 75 meter inverted vee, which played very well into Europe, and an inverted L for 160. Professionally I am a broadcast engineer with Clear Channel Radio in Louisville, KY. Other interests include astronomy, restoring antique and classic radios, photography and astrophotograpy. I present public astronomy programs throughout southern Indiana and Kentucky. I invite you to visit my astronomy website at www.stargeezerastronomy.com See you on the bands! 73,K9GX Last modified: 2011-01-21 23:30:42, 1799 bytes cached
