I converted an old 10meter 3 element Maco beam into two separate antennas. On one side of the 11' 3" boom is a homebrew 20meter half wave dipole. It is fed by a PDL connector attached to 14' of 12 gauge stranded copper wire ( approximately 7' on each side), the wire is then connected to 9' of 5/8" aluminum tubing. At the end of the boom I engineered a 11/2" PVC pipe that is directly out of the end of the boom. The dipole sits perfectly into the PVC at the top, then the aluminum elements are bowed and attached to the 7' wire. The aluminum tubing fit good in a 1/2" PVC thin wall pipe, so I insulated the elements from the boom and each other with it. I made home made straps to hold the PVC and elements to the boom with plumbers tape, and attached the plumbers tape to a U clamp on the boom. The second antenna is the old driven element of the Maco beam with a Gama Match for the feed. I lengthened the Gama Match to about 3', I added about 21' of the 12 gauge copper stranded wire to I attached the wire to the ends of the element, drilled a hole in PVC attatched to the end of the boom to give the wire a bow. This made a 10,12,15,18 multiband loop fed by the Gama Match. They both look really cool, and are working good too !! working conditions : Base Station : Radio-Kenwood ts440sat, Kenwood SP-31 external speaker, w/ 12v DC Battery Bank (one D8 + 2 car batterries), a PI6000 6000 watt - 12000 peak 12volt to 110AC inverter, Heathkit SB-220 Amplifier (with original Imac tubes from 1970's), MFJ-870 watt / SWR meter, Silver eagle D-104 desk microphone. I also use an external speaker system that is a set of "leslie" speakers I salvaged from a 1970's organ that had been thrown away. Mobile Station: Yaesu FT100D , Hustler H-20 antenna for 20 the meter band, Hustler H-80 for 80 meters. I also have a home made antenna. I added wire to a 7' firestick to get the SWR right on 15m, 18m, and 20m , then I add more wire for 40m (18' or so), 80m (55' or so) , and 160m (another 55' or so to the 80m wire) Each band has a seperate length that I add to the 20m portion wich is fixed. I use a string on a tree to pull the wire up in the air !! Donny Micheal Anders born in Columbus Ohio 5/1/62. Son of Donald L. and Jean M. Anders. Father of 5, Donald L. 2nd (26), Nick (23), Tyler (20) , Ally (18) and Alex Reise (7). I have the sweetest Grand Daughter Teagan (3)and Grandson Kelby (born August 25th, 2010 at 9:30 p.m.), and now the newest GrandSon born on 02/19/ 2012 at 12:30am, all three of who are the fruits of Donny L. and his wife Brianna. I am married to my Tammy Jean who is the best thing that ever happened to me, and 14 years younger, so I am on my toes !! ( best bud light I ever bought ) We have been together since 2003 and going strong. After 3 failed marriages, this girl is a winner. Love my Lord, Family, Radios, Dancing, Singing, Fishing, Soccer, Pingpong and Racquet Ball. I am a Karaoke DJ, singing all the classics, from Sinatra to Neil Diamond, Waylon , Seger and more. We have 3 cats and 3 dogs. Don't care to talk of the past too much, just about the present and possibly the future. Things got tuff for me after Dad died in 1978 when I was 16. I am glad to be a part of the Ham Amateur Radio community. I hope to make alot of contacts and a few friends. My interest in Ham Radio sparked when I was 7 and living in Cali Colombia S.A. My uncle Rol (k3ra) used to make phone patches to Cali. We would go to a Cali Ham's station and talk to the states for free. Dad bought me a CB radio and ground plane when I was 11 ( 1973 ) after moving back state side to Florida, (Green Gator - kaaf2636). I then joined with a ch.9 react unit here in Casselberry. Soon after Donny L. was born (1984) , I graduated to Orlando Big Daddy (Double Duece ), and it has stuck ever since. I am well known on 11 meters, I have made thousands of 11 meter DX contacts,(mostly on 27.1350 AM) So, if you are a "no code / CB'r hater", then I recon I'm your huckelberry !! . I am very glad that the code was removed from ticket requirements, as I never could quite grasp the morse code. I do enjoy making contacts, chasing DX, busting through a big pile up, and a good rag chew, so the recent General Class ticket is a wonderfull thing that I am taking full advantage of at every oppertunity. I am truly enjoying all the great contacts, and the wee bit of order that the ham radio ticket offers me. Being able to have aQSO with a station with out interfearence is a wonderfull thing.I have made some very nice contacts to great folks all over the world since Jan. 20th. I plan to work my station all over the world now that I secured my General Class ticket on 8/21/2010. I have an ever changing "poor boy" radio station, so when you look me up again I will try to keep up with the changes.Latest addition to Base Station is the switches and jumpers so that I can work three radios, and 9 antennas and switch back and forth between them.We pushed the 1/4 wave Astroplane from 30' up to 36' in May 2010 , we built the 20m and 40m dipoles on 8/22/10, we built the 80m dipole on 8/25/10.73 from DonnyMichael, kj4rsk**** Last modified: 2012-05-23 17:08:25, 15260 bytes cached
