KK1Z is my american callsing and I use it during holiday trips to the US.

My setup in The Woodlands TX, grid EM20fd, is quite simple: an AT-271 A/PRC military whip on a 3 feet high base with a few radials, you can see a photo of it further down this page. For 20 and 40 meters I use a monoband whip of a similar kind on the same base and radials. My radio is a FT-450D with 100 watts output. I'm active from 50 MHz to 7 MHz mostly CW and some SSB. When in town I'm always looking for DX or contests QSOs.

I have to admit I like the challenge of being on the other side of the pileup with this simple setup. Every DX QSO is an adventure and you really have to sweat every single contact.

My profile picture is operating the ARRL SSB 2011 contest at K3LR, a very impressive contest station that don't have the mentioned limitations.

More information on my DX activities on my XE1KK profile here on QRZ.com and my professional profile on LinikedIn.
