First licensed in 1978 as KAØCWS in South Dakota. I
was assigned KNØN when I upgraded to Extra in 1983. HF rigs are Kenwood TS-2ØØØLE and TS-94ØS barefoot in to either a 2Ø2 foot
long G5RV at 8Ø feet, 120 foot long G5RV NVIS at 15 feet or Cushcraft A3
tribander on 25 foot mast. I run an iCOM IC-2200H with UT-118
for exclusive use on the D-Star mode, mainly on D-RATS and as part of my "Go Kit". My other D-STAR rigs are the iCOM 2820H and 92AD handheld and the analog gear is Kenwood D-700's and Yaesu VX-7R HT.
My QRP rigs include a RockMite 40 meter XCVR
running 500mw and an Elecraft KX-1 (3-4 watts). I also have a
"go kit" for EmComm and portable use that includes a Yaesu FT-857 for
HF and a Yaesu FT-8900 for V/UHF and 12/9600 packet via a Timewave PK-96 TNC.
The ham shack computer is a homebrew Intel Core 2 Duo 2.3 Ghz on an Intel mobo with three soundcards to one SignaLink, separate voice I/O, and one MicroKeyer I/O'S
& Win XP Pro. Current software includes HR Deluxe, FLDigi/FLARQ, D-RATS, RMS, RMS Express, Paclink and
Echolink. My favorite modes D-STAR Digital on V/U and CW or "digital" on HF. SKCC #2354, NAQCC #1581, FISTS
#12744, QCWA #33728, LoTW, eQSL. Check out my regional Amateur Radio portal at
