Tom "DOC" (N9CXI) is I'm a jack of all trades (sometimes just dangerous), never left college, still learning stuff. I have a website donated to the oldest scout band in the US 95 YEARS (second oldest in the world, founded 1917), and you're welcome to visit it at http://www.scoutband.com, or you can come to my weather related website at http://www.mobile.me.com/tron40 there's a link to my weather station and weather web cam (with hourly timelapse, be prepared for a large movie file) QSL information: I accept qso confirmation anyway I can, I use e-mail cards when I can, so if you have an e-mail address listed and I've talked to you, don't be surprised to get one of my cards in your e-mail. I'm OK with LOTW and eQSL, but use LOTW for WAS and such. If you send me a card or ask for one, I'm happy to send you one, but please don't send me a SASE (save your postage), my best card won't fit into the envelopes, it's a full size postcard that I custom print. I don't use the burros because I just don't have that many contacts at the moment, plus I prefer to go the direct route anyway. My station is pretty small as are my antennas, being disabled has prevented me from building up a larger station, but I'm working on it :) My HF rig is a Kenwood TS-570D running 100 watts into a Diamond BB7V vertical and an end-fed long wire, I'm good for 160m-10m depending on conditions. I just added a Heathkit SB-220 amp to the HF station. So signal reports have been real promising. Haven't run it up to full power yet, but we'll see later. I am also using an Icom IC-706MKIIG for 6m-70cm (backup for HF) and I'm using several homebrew antennas with this one. Usually active at night on 2m. Working on some loop SSB antennas for 6m/2m/70cm, we'll see how well that works. Want to schedule something, let me know. I've been in Amateur Radio since 1980 having been mentored by a few hams early on (thanks Joe, K9OOA, Cousin Brooks Short (SK), W9DPI, Dave, N9FOZ (Sadly, Dave is just recently SK and very much missed), Gary, KC9MV (later) and the Elmers at the local Red Cross(unfortunately, our local Red Cross no longer supports an Amateur Radio club or station)). Spent the next few years driving to Chicago to get my general, but for whatever reason, I just couldn't get that darned 13 wpm, so I was satisfied with my Terminal Technician for many years. Then the FCC decided that the code was no longer as good a determinator for being an amateur operator, and changed the rules. Suddenly I was a grandfather ;) and I gladly joined the ranks of the generals :) This year (2009) I got the bug again, thanks to the ARRL Hiram Percy Maxim 140 celebration on HF, I had so much fun just getting my 25 during the worst of conditions, that I just kept it up. And I'm still going. I'm active on several of the nets when I can, OMISS, 3905CC mostly, YL a couple of times, they are great fun, and I'm trying to get in more. My latest project has been what others have been calling the "ComTruck" I just uploaded a picture of it. Basically my ham radio event truck with 160m-10m all mode, 6m all mode, FM 2m/440 and APRS. Around Indy, I'm trying to get more active on the local events and as always you can find me on 146.70- and Skywarn (146.76-). Thanks to my association with N9FOZ, I'm trying to keep our local repeater 146.70- active through the night. Since I'm almost always up during that time, I'll be on (practicing timing out the repeater :) So if you are passing through, bored, new to the hobby, have a question, have an answer, feel free to jump in. We love ragchewing at night and there are a great bunch of hams here in Indy, so join in! 73, hope you hear you soon! Tom, N9CXI
