During the night November 25th,1942 Greek partisans overpowered the guards of Gorgopotamos railway bridge in central Greece and freed the place for the English saboteurs,who placed explosives and blew up the bridge, thus disrupting the provision of supplies to General Rommel’s forces in North Africa for six weeks. This event is characterized by historicals as the biggest sabotage in Europe at the duration of WWII along with the destruction of heavy water factory in Norway. In recollection of this event team of radioamateurs in collaboration with the Department of Communication of Hellenic Commando Association (SZ2LEK) from Thessaloniki city they decided to proceed to the transmission of the special call sign SY1942G from 00:01 UTC Nov.24 until 23:59 UTC Nov.25 over the historical bridge (QTH Locator KM 18 EU).

Τήν νύχτα της 25ης Νοεμβρίου 1942 ομάδες Ελλήνων ανταρτών σε συνεργασία με Βρετανούς δολιοφθορείς προέβησαν μετά από μάχη, στην κατάληψη και ανατίναξη της γέφυρας του Γοργοπόταμου κοντά στην Λαμία, διακόπτοντας την μοναδική σιδηροδρομική σύνδεση Θεσσαλονίκης- Αθήνας. Η ενέργεια αυτή είχε ως αποτέλεσμα την καθυστέρηση, του ανεφοδιασμού των δυνάμεων του Στρατηγού Ρόμμελ στην Βόρεια Αφρική κατά 6 εβδομάδες. Το γεγονός αυτό θεωρήθηκε από τους ιστορικούς ως η μεγαλύτερη δολιοφθορά στην Ευρώπη κατά την διάρκεια του Β’Παγκοσμίου πολέμου, μαζί με την ανατίναξη του εργοστασίου βαρέος ύδατος στην Νορβηγία. Σε ανάμνηση του γεγονότος αυτού, ομάδα ραδιο ερασιτεχνών σε συνεργασία με το τμήμα επικοινωνιών της Λέσχης Ελλήνων Καταδρομέων (SZ2LEK) Θεσσαλονίκης, αποφάσισαν να προβούν στην εκπομπή του ειδικού διακριτικού SY1942G από 00:01 UTC 24/11 έως 23:59 UTC. 25/11 από την ιστορική γέφυρα (QTH Locator KM18EU).
