I was first licenced in 1988 as VE3GJS, a call which I still maintain, but as of 2004 the primary call sign for my station became VE3CH. My fascination with radio goes back to childhood and I was an active SWL and Medium Wave DXer. That fascination also led to a career in broadcasting, where I remain today. My station consists of the following equipment: Transceivers: Yaesu FT-897 (HF/VHF/UHF), Yaesu FT-107M (HF), Kenwood TM-731A (2m/70cm), Icom 27A (2m), Yaesu FT-23R (2m HT) Receivers: Kenwood R-5000, Hallicrafters SX-100 & SX-25 (both need some work!). My antenna system is pretty modest…a simple windom on HF and a Jetstream Tri-band for 6m/2m/70cm. Favourite modes include SSB and PSK31 on HF, although I do dabble a bit in CW and RTTY. I also enjoy Echo Link (node #166815). While I like working new countries and DX, I especially like ‘communicating’ with others beyond the QTH and signal report, whether domestic or DX. Memberships include the Ontario DX Association, Radio Amateurs of Canada and the Quinte Amateur Radio Club. I am the trustee for VE3ALC, the amateur radio station at Loyalist College in Belleville, ON. After a few years off their air, we just recently found a new ‘shack’ within the college and erected a new (well, new to us) vertical antenna for HF and dual band 2m/70cm antenna for V/UHF. We also hope to soon set up an Echo Link node from this location.
