Hi I am Jason, or VK2WAR.

I am an Electronics Technician (Communications) and Sailor in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

I've managed to have most of 2009 off of work due to a Motorcycle accident in November 2008. 10 Surgeries later (Left and Right Shoulder Reconstructions a Cervical Lamenectomy, a Tonsilectomy and Sinus Reconstruction *Surgeries going cheap that month*, 6 Hand & Arm Surgeries, the last on the 5th March 2010). I have been undergoing extensive Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy since the accident and I am glad to say the end is in sight, and I might be getting back to work very soon. I've even gained a keen interest in swimming and managed to do the Butterfly for the first time a week before my last surgery so things are looking up!

Prior to this I was posted to HMAS Darwin (an Adelaide Class FFG (Oliver Perry Class) Guided Missile Frigate) for three years as an External Communications Maintainer.

Being bored out of my wits, I started looking for something to do whilst I was at home and not between medical appointments, physio and hydro or in the pool and ended up falling across HAM Radio.

I recently just completed my Regulations Examination and was lucky enough to receive RPL for the tech and practical exams for my Advanced Licence here in Australia.

As you may have noticed already by the Call Sign I am living in New South Wales, and more specifically the mid-west of suburban Sydney, with my XYL Narelle. Narelle was on the back of the bike when we had the accident, fortunately she came out better than I did, although she does have a recurring ankle injury from the experience. She even agreed to marry me afterwards so that was lucky, I was expecting her to kill me, but as it wasnt my fault, I got a reprieve there ! We were married on the 21st November,2009.

I am a Sandgroper (which is what we here in Australia call someone from Western Australia) and proud of it, my XYL is from Sydney so we spend a lot of time bagging eachother out. Of course I win, cos Western Australia Rocks LOL (well it does !!! Just dont let her know I said that, cos she carries a gun * She is a Highway Patrol Police-Woman).

I am utilising a Gap Titan DX Vertical. I have been experimenting with a Squid Pole Dipole, and Delta Loops but I have removed all other antennas to comply with Parramatta Council Bi-Laws.

I am now running an FT-950 (I have sold my FT-897D an awesome rig to start on) into a 4 x 811A Homebrew Linear Amplifier which I purchased from VK5BUG (David) and all round awesome bloke and am really impressed with the reports I am getting back from those with whom I have had QSO's DX and local. From the Tube linear my signal is routed into an MFJ-962D antenna tuner and then up the stick. My Suite is now complete with a DMU-2000.

I am a member of both Hornsby and Districts Amateur Radio Club and Central Coast Amateur Radio Clubs, I am also a Member of the WIA ,ARRL. &  WICEN
