The Western and Northern Suburbs Amateur Radio Club (WANSARC) was formed in 1970 to service the needs of amateurs and short wave enthusiasts primarily in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The club is an affiliate of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) and seeks to promote amateur radio through meetings, lectures, field days and projects. The club meets on the first Friday of every month (except January) at the Ern Rose Memorial Pavilion, Seaver Grove, Reservoir, at 1930 hours local time. All amateurs, short wave listeners, computer and electronics enthusiasts are welcome to attend. Interstate and international visitors are most welcome. Further information on the club can be found at www.wansarc.org.au The club also holds a weekly VHF net each Tuesday evening, commencing at 1930 hours local time. Frequency is 145.450MHz FM simplex and all members are welcome to join in to the net.
The club is also very active on field days and participates each March in the John Moyle National Field Day. WANSARC has won this event in the 6 hour multi-operator section for the past 5 years, winning again in 2011. WANSARC has a great mix of youthful enthusiasm and experience, so if you hear our club callsign on the air, give the club a shout. At present a history of WANSARC is being written by Mark VK3PI, so if you are a former member of the club, or have some stories to tell or photographs to share of past club activities and/or members, contact Mark VK3PI directly (see QRZ.COM under VK3PI for postal details). And if you are visiting Melbourne on business or holiday, call up on 146.450MHz FM for a chat or come to one of our meetings. You will be made most welcome.
