I was first licenced as VK3ZAZ in 1968 and held the call until upgrading in 1976 to VK3BIZ when I passed the morse code test. With all the fuss over two letter calls and the ballot system, I decided to go back to using the callsign that started my amateur "career". So I applied for and re-acquired the callsign VK3ZAZ after some 34 years and made some 2M qsos in the mid winter field day with stations whom I last spoke to in 1976. Australian Limited licencees may have been limited in frequency spectrum but were not limited in the technical advances that their occupation of the VHF bands made from the post 1960s when we were first granted priviledges. STATION DETAILS: 2M station is a 7 EL Yagi, an IC706 and an RF Concepts 2-117 linear power amplifier powered by an MFJ 4275 75Amp supply running 175 watts pep output. So far I have worked VK5, VK2 VK4 on Es VK6 and VK3 using this station. I only need a VK8 qso to complete my 2M WAS, VK1-VK7were workedand confirmed over 34 years ago. My 6M station is a FT2000 and an AR2 gasfet preamp, backed up by a Kenwood TS690S, driving into a TE Systems solid state FET Linear Amplifier and a 7 element M2 yagi.
