Hi, my name is Brandon. I am 23 years old and I have been licensed since April 14th, 2008. I hold a Basic+ license as well as 5 WPM with the callsign VO1HAX and hope to write my 12 WMP exam soon.

I was born in Scarborough, Ontario and moved to Carbonear, Newfoundland in 1997. The population of Carbonear is just under 5,000 and is an hour drive from the capital, St. John's.

I enjoy operating on 2 meters with a Kenwood TM-241A and sometimes run an Echolink link with an Azden PCS-6000 with 5 Watts (node 456175) and an Echolink interface that I designed for my link, but more often just run Echolink on my computer (node 401409). I am not currently active on HF, but when I am I enjoy operating 80 meter local in the day and DX at night. My favorite bands for DX are 20 and 80 meters. I am no longer running a Kenwood TS-450S, but now a Heathkit HW-100, with 100 Watts into an inverted "V" on 20 and 80. I also have a Hustler 5BTV vertical for 10-80m. Right now my HF radio and antennas are put away, but I hope to see them up again in the near future.

I check into local HF nets (when possible) and the VHF net. I have also called the local VHF net on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights, but have had to step down from that due to other priorities. I try to remain as active as I can by checking into nets, helping out with local events, and lending a hand to keep local repeaters on the air when I can. I have also been known to frequent the Newbie Net - K2RRA (no longer running), Radio Wave Net - WR2ROC, RDXA Net - WR2ROC, College ARC Net - K9IU, and a few more.

I don't usually call CQ, but if you hear me feel free to give me a shout. I am a phone ragchewer and a operate CW for contests and Field Day. If you hear me on CW, feel free to give me a shout. I may ask you to slow down and repeat any messages a few times, but I am practicing to improve my copying skills. For contests I send at 30 WPM with a paddle and up to 20 WPM with a straight key.

Feel free to check out my website for more information, projects, and other hobbies. It's a work in progress, but I'm slowly getting it back up. VO1HAX.com

Happy DX,

73 de VO1HAX
