William E. ( Bill ) Sabin received the FCC Amateur Radio call sign W9YFA
in 1941 in Covington, KY at age 15. He was also, since age 13, interested
in Boy Scout (Troop 21) activities and projects.
His call sign changed to W4YFA in KY in 1946, post-US Navy
( AETM-2C, CL-104 ). In April 1946 (age 19), in a Grumman J2F plane,
as radio op. (click the photo), Commodore, (later 4 star Admiral) Arleigh Burke the pilot,
Bill observed the atomic bomb damage that occurred on August 6,1945 at Hiroshima.

1946 -1955, Radio and TV repair technician, radio experimenter,

engineering Assistant, later engineering Specialist.
Married, 1956 (Ellen), sons Paul and James, daughter Janet.
Registered Professional Engineer (EE), Ohio,1963 - 2007.
Also, in Late November 1963 (age 37) end all tobacco use (cigarettes) forever (a BIG win for Bill).
Call sign W0IYH in Iowa (Collins Radio Co., radio engineer) 1964 -------.
He holds BSEE (1973 with distinction) and MS (EE 1976), both from U. of Iowa,
an excellent university, in his opinion.

In 1983 he received the Annual ARRL Technical Excellence Award.
In 1990 he retired from the Rockwell Collins Company (Cedar Rapids).
He is co-editor of and contributor to, with E.O. Schoenike (1927- 2009),
three books (1987, 1995, 1998) on Single-Sideband and HF Radio (ARRL book #7253).
He is the author of more than 40 published technical articles
and portions of the ARRL Handbook (1995 to 2012, 18 yearly editions).
In 2005 - 2008 he wrote the book "Discrete-Signal Analysis and Design",
Published 2008 by Wiley Co., Interscience Division (ARRL book #0140).
Mathematical at the engineering-student and advanced-technician level.
