WHISKEY ZERO NAVY BRASS POUNDER - WØNBP Served 20 years in the US Navy as an Electrician and Electrical Officer. Had an enjoyable career, traveled many places. Retired March 1st 1974. Attended Iowa State University on the GI bill and got my degree. Then went to work as a project manager for a large nationwide industrial electrical contractor designing and installing PLC HV motor controls systems for service apps. In 1980 I decided to go into business for myself and opened my own contracting company. It was a very successful endeavor and enjoyed my work. After a couple of heart attacks and surgeries in 87 and again in 99, decided to quit the rat race.In 2000 went down to the Social Security office and turned myself in. Hi! Now have time for family, grandkids, and radio. Got my first license in 1959 as a conditional (KC6NBP)while I was in the Navy. Job and family began to take most of my time, so eventually lapsed. When I retired in 2K I decided to get active again. Now I am doing what I always wanted to be able to do and that is make friends around the world in the Amatuer Radio Community.I operate mostly CW and work a little digital (PSK-31) during the day on 20 meters. Rigs at present time are Ten TecJupiter for CW, Elecraft K-2 for QRP, Kenwood TS-480 mobile, Kenwood TS-570 with an AEA PK 900 TNC Modem for all digital and Pactor I, Ameriton ALS-600 Amplifier and LDG AT-1000Pro Autotuner. Antennas are a OCF Windom Dipole, and Hy-Gain AV-18 Vertical mounted on the peak of my roof with radials ran to the rain gutters and grounded to ground rods and 100' of chain link fence around the back yard. 73 Bill WØNBP Ottumwa, Iowa Last modified: 2012-04-13 05:19:39, 1731 bytes cached
