Primary station consists of Yaesu FTdx-5000MP and Ameritron AL-82 Amp. Antenna system is stacked set of Mosley Pro-67a at 72ft and Pro-67C at 114ft. Have owned the FTdx5000MP since March 2010 and have been very impressed with it. I also have the DMU and u-tune units.

The FTdx-5000MP is a BIG rig with great ergonomics. It has a very quiet and superb receiver with the filtering tools to deal with any QRM/QRN situations. I have been extremely impressed with the apparent "talk" power by this transmitter. For those who are not thrilled over the Station Monitor (SM-5000) spectrum display, one option is to add a pan-adaptor. On the right photo above you will see the monitor on the left is displaying PowerSDR-IF waterfall using a LP-PAN adaptor utilizing VFO-A's 9MhzIF. My latest improvement was to put up a new 110ft Rohn 45G tower and stack two Mosley Pro-67s at 72ft and 114ft and was completed on 5 Nov 2011. I use a Array Solutions Stack Match II so I can choose between top, bottom, both in phase or both antennas out of phase. So far the antennas have performed to specifications and reports have been excellent.

Currently operating 75M with a home brew 80/40M super loop wire antenna at about 65ft. 160M antenna is a home brew windom. 6M is a home brewed 7 element OWA Yagi at 42ft.

Proud Father of two young hams. My oldest two children Brenna(N0GSA), YL age 13 and Daniel (W0USS) age 12, became generals as of 24 Feb 2011. They had passed their tech exams and were issued their first license in May 2010. Listen for them on SSB.

I have been a Ham since 1977. Recently (Dec '09) updated my call, it was WE8P for many years.

Retired in 2007 after 26 year military career(Army Colonel). Specialized in Communications, Intelligence and Special Operations. Spent the next 4 years working for Rockwell Collins (old Collins Radio Company) in Cedar Rapids, IA. I left Rockwell Collins September of 2011 and am now actively retired.

You can often find meoperatingout of the mobile. The vehicle is a full size Chevy Van. The mobile station is a Yaesu FT-857D with an Ameritron ALS-500M amppushing 400w into a HI-Q model 5-80 screwdriver antenna. I remote the control head of the radio and amp to the front operating console in additionto the screwdriver controller and SWR meter.I use different combination of whips and capacitance hats. Although the vehicles alternator is rated to handle the amp, I found placing a second battery (parallel connected to vehicles primary battery) but very close to the amp works great. Very little voltage drop when keying the amplifier. Antenna is mounted on a thick aluminum plate which is bolted under the trailer ball.

Due to military assignments across the world have held and operated numerous call signs and if your still need or want a qsl card just send me a note and I will send one out.

Currently like to operate across all HF bands primarily SSB.Enjoy good ragchew and also like to contest. Can often find me on 3905 Century Club Nets.

BSEE (Mich Tech Univ) and MSEE (Naval Postgraduate School). Graduated from Army War College with MS in Strategic Studies. Life member of ARRL, Army Signal Regimental Association, and Armed Forced Communication and Electronics Association. Veteran of Foreign Wars, Airborne and Ranger qualified.
