W1HQ is the ARRL Employees club station, which is different than W1AW. W1HQ is located in the ARRL Administration building, and is available for employees to use during the weekends, lunch hour and other off times. We are active on SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31 on 160 - 2 meters, as well as the FM satellites AO-27 and AO-51. The station acquired the call W1HQ in honor of Laird Campbell, who held the call for many years. Campbell was a long-time ARRL staffer who became a Silent Key in 2002; he was highly respected by many at ARRL. The station has three operating positions: HF 1: Icom 756 Pro III, Alpha amplifier, SteppIR 3-el triband yagi with 30m/40 add-on kit at 50 feet, and a 80m dipole at 35'. This is where most HF DX'ing and contest operations take place. HF 2: Icom 718, Gap multi-band vertical on the admin building roof. This is the "Basic" HF station, used by many ARRL staffers new to HF. Most PSK QSOs take place from this station. The Basic station is also home to an FM VHF/UHF rig that allows QSOs on the local repeaters and FM satellites. VHF: Icom 746 Pro for 6m and 2m SSB/CW/WSJT work. Antennas are an M2 6M5X for 6 meters at 55 feet and a Cushcraft 13B2 for 2 meters at 60 feet. We also have a converted Healthkit SB-220 for a KW on 6 meters (courtesy of King Conversions/W1QJ) and a 300 watt Mirage amp on 2 meters. Future plans include expanded satellite operation, expansion to 220/432 SSB/CW, and better antennas for 80 and 160 meters. We upload our logs to Logbook of the World on the first of every month. For a paper QSL, please include an SASE. QSL also okay via buro. 73, Sean Kutzko KX9X W1HQ Club President Last modified: 2011-07-25 14:34:56, 1779 bytes cached
