September 8 - 16, 2012 The St. Louis, MO area of Route 66 On-The-Air W6P stations made 2504 contacts in 2011. Hope you were one of them. We want to thank everyone who contacted us. YOU are the ones who make this Special Event a success. Our excitement grows each year and it appears yours does too. Thank you. Find us, work us, All bands, All modes. We plan to have D-Star, IRLP, and Echolink all available again this year for contacts into our area through our repeaters. Contact us on the air or via email to KG0KP for a schedule on some of these modes to insure monitoring and watch the cluster for spots. ------------- Each station along the route handles their own individual QSL cards. QSL for W6P ONLY is SASE to KG0KP via QRZ address. - OR - http://www.w0sjs.com/w6p/ for online lookup of your QSO information and printing of a QSL Card or a nice W6P certificate (mobile operators and some others may not be able to upload logs immediately). ------------- NEW REDESIGNED HOST WEBSITE --------------- The Route 66 Special Event host website is http://www.w6jbt.org/. This event is in celebration of the "Mother Road" running from Chicago to Santa Monica California. This was the first improved road built to connect the central US to the west coast. Many 0f us have driven the Mother Road and remember the car we were in and the experiences we had along the way. Working this event we hear the stories from those who still remember their trip. Parts of the original Route 66 still exist even though the modern interstate system which began in the 1950s has now replaced it and bypassed most of the route. Look for the portions along the way that are still there. Several sections now have nice museums as well. This event is growing every year. This year we have 19 stations, W6A through W6Q plus W6S and W6T as Rovers. Many of our official stations are also running mobile operations and any of our mobiles may be worked for the mobile endorsement. Endorsements available are CW, phone, digital, repeater, and mobile. Only a single contact is necessary on each mode to any of our stations to get credit for that endorsement. See the host website for more details and information about the stations and locations as well as the endorsements available for the Route 66 On-The-Air certificate, GO FOR A "CLEAN SWEEP". You do NOT have to work all stations and all modes ("endorsements") to get the certificate. Your Route 66 On-The-Air certificate from our host will have those stations and modes checked that you DID work and the others will not be marked as worked. The Route 66 On-The-Air certificate application is available from the host site only. Use the application as a worksheet. Do not forget to include each unique mode on the station worked if you worked them on more than one mode. For instance if you work all CW and want credit for the one call you made on phone and one on digital, etc, make sure you have those entered on your worked sheet as your contact. The contact and/or QSL manager for each site is also listed on the host website. Some of the stations have made QRZ entries. We have a lot of fun on this end too so come back and work us wherever you find us. I won't run you off if you come back to chat in slack times either. If you have a special band or mode you want to work, come back when things slow down and I will see if we can work it out or we can make a schedule. I also try to keep up with where our other Route 66 Special Event stations are running via the spots YOU, our callers, place, hint. THANKS for participating and helping to make this Special Event a success. Notice there were over 25,000 contacts made during Route 66 On-The-Air in 2011 !!! Thank YOU. 73, de Jim KG0KP QRZ LOG BOOK REQUESTS WILL NOT BE CONFIRMED
