I go by my middle name Steve (actually Steven) unfortunately the government hasn't figured out how to write software that allows the option of using ones middle name when applying for a license or anything else for that matter. I've been a ham for over 33 years and I have had an Extra Class License for over 24 years. My former call signs are KA7AWS and WA7H. I'm a member of ARES (past Wyoming Section Manager and Section Emergency Coordinator). I am also a member of Wyoming and Laramie County RACES (past State and Laramie County RACES Officer) and currently the Wyoming Air Force MARS Director, AFA8SI/AFF8WY, AF MARS Region 8 Emergency Communications Coordinator and AF MARS Northwest Area Emergency Communications Coordinator AFE8EC. I'm also a member of the National Communication System (NCS) Shared HF Resources (SHARES) Program. I'm a life member of the ARRL and QCWA, a long time member of AMSAT, I'm also a member of the , Shy-Wy Radio Club and the Collins Collectors Association. I retired from the US Air Force in 1990 after 25 years on active duty and retired from DHS/FEMA (Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency) Region 8 in Denver Colorado in 2009. I operate mostly on HF, 75 meter, 40 meter, 20 meter and the higher ham bands when propagation permits, I also have satellite, many digital modes and APRS capability. I am also very active on the Air Force MARS frequencies. Now that I'm retired I'll be operating mobile from my motor home as I travel around the country to and from as many hamfests as I can attend.

I operated portable from Snowy Range Wyoming in the Medicine Bow National Forest. I was using an Icom IC-7000 and a 100 feet of wire strung up between two pine trees. My camp was at just over 9,500 feet above sea level and was a very quiet radio environment as well as good propagation. I'm back home now, where it is warm and dry, so I thought I would share a few pictures from my hunting trip. It started out warm and dry and I was complaining about the Yellow Jackets buzzing me all the time. Daytime highs were around 70 degrees and nighttime lows about 32. I was hoping for cooler weather with a good tracking snow for elk and deer season. I guess the old saying be careful what you wish for is appropriate here.
The temperature plummeted to 17 degrees at night with highs about 27 degrees during the day, then the snow started falling and falling, even when the temperature warmed up to about 35 degrees during the day, the snow kept falling, it seemed that even when the sun was shining the snow was falling. It turned the whole mountain into a big snowy, muddy, wet quagmire. I've been hunting up there for almost 40 years and it was the wettest I've seen it since the 70's. I decided I better get out while I still had a chance of doing it without tearing up my new truck and trailer and I did, barely. To add insult to injury, it appears the elk had left the mountains before I did. On my way home there were over 100 elk grazing happily in one of the pastures at the old 91 Ranch just East of Centennial, WY at the base of the mountains.
