First licensed in the early 80's as KA6PLD as a novice. Never used the call, and it expired a couple years later. Took the tech test in the 90's as KB7YEE, and used my 5wpm from the 80's to upgrade to Extra. Decided to get a vanity call, and reached into my past as a Sonar Technician aboard Submarines and applied for and received W7STS. I guess you might call me radio active, but I tend to be active in radio with a purpose. I love doing public service events and have been very active with the Maricopa County Emergency Communications Group (MCECG). MCECG is currently supporting about 35 events annually, and the hams who participate donate 7000-10,000 hours a year. I also really enjoy field day, and love to go to the Explorer Post 599 Field Day in Heber, AZ. The focus is on the kids, but when they run out of gas, I like running a pileup or two! They have a really nice setup, run 2A with a GOTA and satelite station. We have won the section for 2A on several occasions! Was the Arizona Section Emergency Coordinator (currently the Assistant), and led MCECG. Codeveloped the Arizona ARES database which was shared with the Orange Section and the Idaho sections. In 2003 I worked Hurricane Isabel from the Chesapeak, VA EOC, and it was a tremendous experience. Now days, you will find me hanging out with MCECG doing events that strke my fancy. Radio with a purpose! In the greater Phoenix area sign up for events at www.mcecg.net MCECG - Our goal is safety. Our tools are radios. Our strength is experience. Our passion is service.
