I was first licensed in 1961 in Westchester County, NY as WN2IPE and as memory serves, it took almost the full year before taking my general class exam and becoming WB2OZN. My father was a radio operator in the old US Army Air Corp. He got me hooked on bugs at age 12 and it’s still what I primarily use.
I received my current call in 1972 after graduating from college in Rhode Island and deciding to stay. I’ve been in the publishing business since that time, primarily community newspapers and regional magazines.
Though I try and stay current with new operating modes and technologies including all digital modes as well as remote operating over the web, my real enjoyment comes from operating a small collection of vintage gear. I’m a tinkerer by nature…not a particularly good one but committed nevertheless.
My warm weather hobby is classic cars; 60s and 70s European coupes. Nothing exotic, just fun to drive and play with. It dovetails nicely with my interest in vintage ham gear especially when working with Lucas electrics.
