Help AMSAT to Fly Fox-1:
Solar Panel Campaign Begins
As AMSAT embarks on the Fox-1 Project, here is an opportunity to literally put your callsign on the Fox hardware. AMSAT is looking for major donations to help underwrite the cost of solar cells/panels, one of the more significant expenses of the project. These solar cells are needed for the flight unit as well as for the flight spare. As Fox-1 will have solar cells on all six sides of the spacecraft and given the relatively small surface area available on each side (at most 4" by 4" per side), AMSAT will invest in high efficiency solar cells to gain as much power as possible to operate the spacecraft
NY Area Coordinator- Let me know if I can answer your questions about how to enjoy communicating thru Satellites! And please support AMSAT, thank you. Please visit, http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/index.phpfor more information about AMSAT, thank you.
Hello, call me Pete I have been involved inAmateur Radio since 1964. I enjoy HF,VHF and operate just about all modes. I am a member of the ARRL, AMSAT, Great South Bay ARC, and the YCCC
During field day 2008, Neil Heft (KC2KY) of the Radio Central Amateur Radio Club introduced me to Amateur Satellites, what fun.
Summer 2008, I bought an Arrow 146/347 10WBP dual-band, handheld yagi and began working amateur satellites AO-27, AO-51 and SO-50. I've had more fun working satellites than anything else I've done with ham radio. It's a thrill! If you haven't tried it, you don't know what your missing!
I HAVE BEEN LICENCED SINCE 1964. I LISTENED TO JEAN SHEPHERD, K2ORS,ON WOR RADIO ANDI TOO WANTED TO BECOME A COMMUNICATOR. IHEARD HIM CALL K2USA, THE WORLDS FAIR STATION AT THE COCA-COLA PAVILLON SAW THEIR COLLINS EQUIPMENT AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE AMATEUR SERVICE EVER SINCE. I CONVINCED MY PARENTS TO LET ME ERECT A 10' ROHN TOP SECTION ON THE ROOF OF THEIR NEW HOUSE TO OPERATE 6 & 2 METERS. I HAD STACKEDMY CUSHCRAFTBEAMS ON THE ROHN, WENT TO RADIO ROW AND BOUGHT A HAMMARLUND 110A VHF RECEIVER AND A HEATHKIT SENECA WITH THOSE WILD 6146B'S!
I WAS ACTIVE UNTIL 1974 WHEN ANOTHER HOBBY, CARS, SPECIFICALLY PORSCHE CARS INFECTED ME. I HAD NO PLANS TO MARRY SO MY DAD GAVE ME THE MONEY I HADCONTRIBUTED TO HIS HOUSE AND PURCHASED A 1974, 2.0 LITRE 914, IT WAS A TERRIFIC CAR A FUN DAILY DRIVER AND A SOLID AUTOCROSS AND RALLY CAR. IT WAS ALSO SUPPOSED TO B E MY DATING MACHINE, ONE DATE, ONE LOVE AND WITHIN A YEAR I NEEDED MONEY TO GET MARRIED. I BORROWED FROM MY WIFE TO BE, SHE HAD A LEGENDSLIME1968 MUSTANG, ANOTHER NICE CAR AND THE 914 WAS SOLD. IGOT BACK INTO AMATEUR RADIO IN 1995, AND WENT FROM TECHNICIAN TO EXTRA WITH THANKS TO PHIL LEWIS, N2MUN, AND THE GSBARC CLUB.
IOPERATE CW, SSB, RTTY ALL BANDS 160 THROUGH 2 METERS AND 70 CM FM VOICE AND PACKET. I JOINED AMSAT, READ ALL ABOUT THE OSCAR PROGRAM, WHICH IN 1964 SEEMED LIKE ANOTHER LANGUAGE AND UNAPPROACHABLE. WELL AMSAT HAS A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO GET STARTED WITH SATELLITES, WHICH I DID. I STARTED WITH MY HANDHELD AND AN ARROW ANTENNA, TRY IT, YOU WILL LIKE IT!
