Glenn got his novice permit (WN5RKK) in 1976 at the age of 15. He built a HeathKit transceiver by himself and made several contacts via an inverted V antenna. Later that year the FCC changed their call sign procedures and Glenn became WB5RKK. He then became distracted by driving a car and girls and never followed through on it, allowing it to expire in the summer of 1978. Fast forward many, many years. Twenty years, to be precise. Glenn became enthralled with storm chasing and even installed a dual band rig in his car while studying for a new license, but it turned into an expensive scanner as he never took the exam. Finally, in the spring of 2007 Glenn took and passed the test and became a Technician class as KE5NYJ, quickly switching over to the vanity call of WX3TOR. The WX is for weather, the TOR is NOAA's standard abbreviation for Tornado, and the 3? Well the 5 was taken so Glenn picked 3 since that covers Delaware where his ancestors landed in 1689. Glenn is active with his local ARES organization and is a member of DCARA (Denton County Amateur Radio Association). He still chases storms when he can.
