YO3KPA has been the National Children's Palace callsign for almost 61 years.

The mentor, strategist, technical equipment builder and repairman, and the greatest operator has been YO3ND, Sandy, who had worked at the National Children's Palace for 38 years, when he retired in 2010. At present, a representative of the new generation, YO3GOD, Florin, Sandy's son, is trying to obtain the same results with YO3KPA, as YO3ND did.

Since 2000, YO3KPA has participated in many contests, generally as YP3A, our special call used only in international contest. The YP3A team won WAG, ARI, ISLANDS ON THE AIR, ALL ASIAN DX CONTEST, WPX, ARRL; and was in the top ten at CQWW, WAE, WPX for more than 15 times.

The first team at YO3KPA consisted of YO3ND, YO3FWC(now N2YO) and YO3GOD. Then came YO3GRE(now YO3JR) and YO3JOS,both teenagers at that time. When they left, YO9GZU(a medical student) become a member of theYO3KPA team. He also introduced YO3GSM (now YO3GW)- an Assistant Professor at the University ‘POLITEHNICA’ of Bucharest - to the team.YO3HKW(a pharmacist) was one of our members for few months. At that time, YO3HOT- a Doctor of Engineering - also joined and greatly supported the team. When YO9GZU left YP3A to join the YR7M team, he was replaced by YO3GDA– a university student as well (now using the call YO3XX). In a few months’ time, he brought YO9GJYand YO3HAE(his fellow colleagues at the university).

A special mention should go to N2GM (former YO3MS, a call he used in his college and university days as a member of the YO3KPA team), who has always supported the YO3KPA team, providing electronic equipment and ham contest software, as well as information and advice.

Starting with 2010, when YO3ND retired and YO3XX temporarily left, the team has seen a “rejuvenation” process. First there came 17 y.o. and, respectively 23 y.o, YO3IFX and YO3IGB. Then, in few months the following had their license as radio amateurs: YO3IJF (11 y.o.), YO3IJG (14 y.o.), YO3IJH (YO3IJI's father), YO3IJI (11 y.o.), YO3ILR (11 y.o.), YO9IMB (17 y.o), YO3IMC (11 y.o) and YO3IMD (16 y.o). Luca is a 7 years old boy who likes the HAM world very much. His call is YO3INN and he likes a lot the Morse Code and he's the keenest to work in CW

In the recent years, we had the honour of being visited by different personalities of the European HAM world, as lots of other hams from abroad.
