First licenced as ZL3TJV in 1971 while at school, I was active on 2mtrs, mainly interested in VHF DX, through to the late eighties when I gave up amateur radio till 2004 when I began operation on HF. Shortly after that obtaining the ZL3OZ call which once belonged to the man who helped me get into Amateur radio.

I am married and have four children. My wife Shirley is licenced as ZL3SD and son Lewis as ZL3LO.

I do not collect QSL cards.  If You would like a QSL card I will accept a card exchange but prefer you to send a direct card with international postage coupon and SAE so I can send my card back direct to you.

Please no Bureau cards.

I am a member of SPAM and ARCF.

I am an active Christian having been involved in establishing Christian radio stations in NZ. Our local one beeing 5Kw and using  a 90M tower.

Some other hobbies and interests are Fly fishing, Hunting, Reading, Landscape art (painting mainly in pastel), Beekeeping and Caving.

Have also done some taxidermy, breadmaking and cheesemaking.

 QTH on the hill. At top a 5/8 2mtr groundplane then 2mtr 3el yagi near top on VK for sporadic E. 17mtr X beam on USA and my Inv.V Trap Dipole just below it. 40mtr trap visible above chimney. Always amazes me how well I do with this modest setup. Location! Location!

 First comercial rig, FT200 Yaesu, bought 1972 and still own it and use it as workshop radio.

 Also a couple of portable outings. One by the ocean at Timaru and the other at 3000ft on Mt. Nimrod.

 Old vintage AM radios from WW2. On left a WS208 on 80mtrs and the green one is a backpack WS48 on 40mtrs at half a watt. This one has been heard right across the Pacific in California. Yet to do it as a full QSO.
