I am a member of the RSGB and SARL. I was licenced in 1961 and am a life member of the R N A R S No. 092. I also hold the call G0CWF. I was born in 1930 . I served Royal Navy 1947 - 1955 and in the South African Navy 1955 - 1980. Trained as a telegraphist in the R.N at Cookham Camp Rochester and first ship was an Algerine Minesweeper HMS Truelove operating off Northern Norway - Bear Island, Vardo ,Vadso, Hammerfest and Tromso . etc. - Chatham Depot. Served HM ships Royal Arthur: Truelove, Mull of Galloway; Afrikander; Mercury; Grenville; Pembroke.SAN ships Survey Ship Protea (1955) ; Good Hope and Cape Naval Radio - Youngsfield ; Silvermine; and Naval HQ Pretoria. When with Afrikander was stationed at Cape East and Cape South Transmitting stations( SWB 8; SWB 11 CS5B's etc) Was at ZSJ; ZSL;GYK - Area Two Receiving Station at Kommetjie(Slangkop). Was also an instructor at the Signal School Klaver (atop Redhill Simonstown) where "Just Nuisance" - Able Seaman R.N. is buried. Current equipment IC 737 and Full Size G5RV. IC 281H for VHF. I operate mainly on CW and current countries list is 236 worked and confirmed. After fifty years ZS1WA will be QRT from mid March 2011. The Call sign will remain in the Cape with my daughter in Panorama Capetown for use when I am there I am now operating G0CWFwith a FT2000 and G5RV. QRV all hf bands CW. from QTH Nr Hartlepool - North East England.
