The G3PYE and G6PYE callsigns are held by the CRG (Cambridgeshire Repeater Group) which formed out of the PYE Telecommunications Radio Club to allow non-PYE employees a chance to join, and add their skills to the group. The callsign is mainly activated by the social side of the CRG, the Camb-Hams, see below.

The very first radio telephone voice talk-through repeater (145MHz) was developed by the radio amateurs at PYE, and became licensed as GB3PI in 1971. In May 1972 it was moved from the PYE factory site in Cambridge UK to their aerial mast at Barkway to provide a much wider coverage area for mobile and portable users. The group also developed the first UHF (433MHz) voice repeater, the first amateur television repeater (1300MHz), the first SHF (1297MHz) voice repeater and the first high speed (as it was then) 9600baud data repeater (439MHz). The Camb-Hams is the social side of the CRG and was formed in 2005 by a group of repeater users in and around Cambridgeshire who wanted to be more active. Since then we have increased activity both on and off the repeaters. There’s no membership or obligations to “join” the Camb-Hams. Normally we’ll meet for beer and dinner once a month, enter the odd contest or whatever anyone else arranges. More info about this side of the group here:http://www.camb-hams.com/

G3PYE/P is used in most RSGB UKAC events using the communications vehicle known asFlossie.
