Ralph has been active almost continuously since he was licensed in 1962. He has been involved in many aspects of amateur radio; but his passions are DX’ing, contesting, and DXpeditions. He also enjoys growing his antenna farm. He participated in the 1992 DXpeditions to South Sandwich and South Georgia, led the 1994 3Y0PI DX’pedition to Peter I, was a member of the 1995 XR0Y Easter Island team, was a co-leader of the 1997 VK0IR Heard Island team, and returned to South Sandwich and South Georgia in 2002. Ralph was a co-leader of the 3Y0X DXpedition to Peter I in 2006, and a member of the K5D Desecheo Island DXpedition in 2009. He participated in the PJ6A operation from Saba Island in 2010. In January and February of 2011 he was part of the South Orkney Islands DXpedition, VP8ORK, and operated from Bhutan as A52IR in October - November of 2011. Most recently, Ralph operated from Malpelo Island during the HK0NA DXpedition of January and February of 2012. He holds eight DXpedition of the Year Plaques and is a member of the DX Hall of Fame. Next trip? . Pending. Ralph has enjoyed introducing hams to the thrills of contesting and DX’ing. When possible he enjoys hosting a Multi-2 for contesting from his QTH. He is married with four children and is a recently retired diagnostic radiologist.
