K0K c/o The Atlanta Radio Club
My name is Newton White and I live in Decatur,GA near Atlanta. I am a flavor chemistry scientist and I work in the soft drink industry. I enjoy cooking (BBQ on the Big Green Egg), bowl turning on the wood lathe, and currently I am attempting to learn how to play guitar (Note: I have given this up to learn CW!). I am serving as vice president of the Atlanta Radio Club and will be secretary of the SEDX club beginning in June, 2011. I was born in Los Angeles area but I have lived in the Atlanta area since I was 6 years old. My XYL Vicki and I have been married for 30+ years and I have three grown children. Participating in Ham radio has been a desire since childhood and I finally reveived my Technician license in March, 2009. My original call was kj4klo. I received a vanity call about a month later and my call sign is now k0nwt. I upgraded to General at the Atlanta Radio Club HamFest in June, 2009, and I will keep the vanity call. I changed my mind on the vanity call - N4EWT was available and as of May 20, 2011 I am at home in '4' land. I am running mostly QRP these days and enjoy field excursions using my PFR3A with a straight key which is hooked to a 50 foot piece of duplex speaker wire. One leg of the antenna wire is clipped at the 25 foot mark - visit WA0ITP Terry's website for more about the antenna. I have started kit building and I now have several unbuilt kits to be finished when I retire. My current project is a K-2. Other rigs in my shack include an FT-450, Swan 350, Flex 5000, a Hendricks BITX 20, and a couple of single tube 80M QRP transmitters built from kits. Usually during the non-summer months I am the unofficial Net Control for the North GA QRP Club Tuesday night SSB QRP net. The net operates close to 3.975 MHz from 8:30 - 9:00 pm local time.
