![]() I ran the IC-703 and Cushcraft R6000 to work "Tomy" on 31 Oct. 2004 during the CQ WW SSB DX Contest. It was a real nice Halloween Treat for me. It was late 2006 when I read about QRP ARCI's 1000 MPW Award and a few weeks later via the Bureau, I rxed "Tomy's" QSL. I had forgotten that our QSOwas during one of my QRPp contest runs. What a great joy for me and then I applied for this Award!

I held the call sign K7TDC for a short time while using indoor antennas. It was 3 September, 2011, +/- 0330Z, and while tuning down on 20, I heard Alex working a pile-up. While getting ready to transmit, I said out loud “I’m gonna break this pile-up” then laughed very loudly and got ready to transmit. I didn’t break the pile-up, but I found a hole, and with Alex’s great operating skills, I was able to make the contact. What is so special about this contact? It is the antenna that makes this a great contact. I was using my BUDDIPOLE DIPOLE, indoors,7 feet / 2.1336 meters above the shop floor. ![]() Two days before the WPX contest, I lost my voice and my digital voice was not working either -- REALLY BAD NEWS! I managed to complete the DV repairs by 2000 Z on Sunday, 25 March 2012. Now, with only 4 hours left I started working the contest. My first Q was with E7DX at 2011Z and my last was with CN2R at 2351 -- LESS THAN 4 HOURS. After awhile, I decided to look up the calls, ALL 16 OF THEM & discovered, much to my amazement, that I had worked WAC. HOLY SMOKES!!! EQUIPMENT: ICOM IC-703, ALPHA 4510 Wattmeter, HEIL HC6, W2IHY EQplus, CUSHCRAFT R8, fed with ANDREW 7/8 inch HELIAX. My station is performing well. ![]() I worked Andrew VK4NM in the WPX contest running the IC-703 and the Cushcraft R8 Vertical. ![]() ![]()
I have three of these signs posted around my property to warn people and animals that can read of the dangers of high power QRP. ![]() ![]() I worked Jim running the IC-703 to the Cushcraft R-6000 Vertical. ![]() The Cushcraft R-8 reinstalled 15 March 2012. See the YouTube video “QRP ANTENNA FARM 2012 – The R8”. ![]() This is my operating position as of about 18 March, 2012. On the right side of the photo, you can only see the illuminated meter of the Palstar AT-500 Antenna Tuner. On the left, you can see the MFJ Digital Voice. ![]()
Well FINALLY!!!!
After 51 years of wanting to work CASABLANCA, I finally made it.
This was my African continent contact in the WPX.
The 17 meter contact is the one where I lost my voice because my digital voice was down.
I called him for 4 hours, and recognizing that I was a QRP station,
he gave me a real signal report, unlike the other stations where he just gave 59.
