Southern Illinois Long Wire Association (SILWA) is a group of dedicated amateur radio operators located in south central Illinois. The members of the organization are specifically interested in HF and ‘weak signal’ V/UHF operations.
Our modes of interest include, but, are not limited to, CW, data – digital and analog, and voice. Some of our charter members are involved in radio contesting, both casually and seriously, at QRO and QRP levels. A frequent topic of conversation at club meetings is what DX or interesting HF contacts any of us have made, or, what new mode(s) of operation we may have tried, with reports of successes and failures. And, we share stories and tales of technical pursuits – what new gizmo or gadget we’ve built, bought, or read about, or how to cure an RFI problem.and, of course, there are always new antenna designs to toss about and analyze. In all cases, we’re interested in learning – in being challenged – and, enjoying all the facets of our wonderful shared avocation.
Our one overriding goal for creating SILWA was and remains to be to provide a framework for and encourage the exchange of information between hams – both those who are newly licensed and those who are ‘more seasoned,’ and to ensure the continued skill development required for the growth and enhancement of amateur radio.
Meetings are usually the third Tuesday of the month at the FranklinCounty 1910's CarMuseum, 211 N. Main St., Benton, Illinois at 1830.All Welcome!!!
We use LOTW.
