For decades I traveled to various countries in the Caribbean with portable antennas and transceivers to operate radio contests. It was a lot of fun, but I grew tired of carrying so much radio luggage and using temporary antennas. In June 2001 I purchased a home in Aruba and named it Iguana Villa. It was located in the finest residential area, not far from the beach, and the home was rented to tourists and other amateur radio operators while I was away. The first tower went up in October 2001 and over the next five years the station continued to grow until it had the following antennas installed which are shown in the above photo (click on image to enlarge):
160m: 54 ft. Top Loaded Vertical (Homebrew - Freestanding) 80m: Inverted "V" at 60 ft. 40m: 2 element (shortened) - 18 ft. Boom at 77 ft. (OptiBeam OB2-40) 20m: 4 element - 36 ft. Boom at 71 ft. (Homebrew - Wide Element Spacing) 15m: 4 element - 24 ft. Boom at 57 ft. (Homebrew - Wide Element Spacing) 10m: 4 element - 18 ft. Boom at 51 ft. (Homebrew - Wide Element Spacing)
Owning this vacation home was a fantastic experience and I spent considerable time enjoying it with my XYL. However for a variety of reasons I sold the home in April 2009. As part of the sales agreement, I was able to continue to use the house and station for an additional two years. In March 2011, with the help of WD9DZV /P40D, the station was completely dismantled. Thanks for the QSOs. Please QSL via WD9DZV
