60 Years VERON.

VERON is an acronym for Vereniging voor Experimenteel Radio Onderzoek In Nederland (Society for Amateur Radio in The Netherlands). It is by far the largest society for licensed radio amateurs and short wave listeners (SWLs) in The Netherlands. Founded on 21 October 1945 (shortly after the Second Worldwar), VERON was formed out of the fusion of three existing radio societies, NVVR, NVIR and VUKA, whose origins trace back to 1916, 1926 and 1934 respectively. VERON was granted legal personality by the Royal Decree of 29 April, 1947.

VERON is also the Netherlands section of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). Membership of VERON automatically implies that one's interests as an SWL or a licensed radio amateur will be represented at the IARU.

The Society also forms a valuable bridge between the amateur radio community and the national licensing authority, the Netherlands Posts and Telecommunications Department (HDTP) with whom it has established a continuing dialogue in matters affecting its members.

VERON has a federal structure. It is organised in 68 Sections, spread throughout the Netherlands, each of which is led by a committee elected from within its membership. The Society is administered at national level by a Central Management team, which is responsible to a Council comprised of Delegates from the individual Sections.

So this year this Union celebrates its 60th anniversary. During the months of September, October and November 2005 the members of the section (afd.54)Etten-Leur will in rotation be active with the special callsign PI 60 ETL
