Being stuck in a radio free condo, I am reduced to operating Remote Base.
A modest station at my office QTH in Miami occupies a small corner of a workbench, and feeds a Comet H-422 40M-10M trap V dipole at ~40feet AGL:
Rig is a FlexRadio 3000, driving an Ameritron ALS-600 solid state linear amp for ~500W PEP. Both are married to the PC running PowerSDR, which also includes an Orban 1100 Optimod PC card for transmit audio processing:
I control this station over the internet using Radmin remote desktop software, along with either IPsound or Skype for bidirectional audio transport.
My linear amp interface provides automatic remote band switching that follows the radio, and lockout for known high VSWR frequency ranges. Remote power outlet IP control for both the radio and the PC, along with a "dead man" PTT timeout timer that will power down the radio, assure positive control compliance at all times. This all results in great ease and safety of operation.
I usually operate this station remotely from my condo in Plantation, FL about 11 miles north, but also from my laptop whenever I travel. Very handy indeed!
