My current call is W4RYF. I have also been called KB5YZG, AAT3BC, HL9RFT, ABM4RF, and JF1DFG. I got my Tech License in 1992 and my General in 2007.
I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina USA, in the little town of Hendersonville.(Grid is EM85sh or ICBM coordinates 35-18-56.13 N, 82-28-42.14 W.)
My interests include HF digital, amsat ops, VHF sweepstakes, D-STAR, FMT and restoring old Zenith Transoceanic radios. I’m a member of ARRL, AMSAT, ARES (2011-E.C. Henderson County) and Army MARS (2011-NC EOO).
My station consists of an ICOM-7600, ICOM-880D, ICOM-910 (for amsat), ICOM-7000, and just for fun the JRC NRD-545, AOR AR5000A+3 and AOR SR2000 FFT receivers, and my old friend the Drake SPR-4 receiver. I use a Dell laptop for CAT and to run the AZ/EL amsat antenna controls, and a SignalLink soundcard and a SCS DRAGON modem for digital ops (modes include WINLINK Pactor, WINMOR, Packet, MT-63, OLIVIA, and PSK 31).
Look for me on the local IRLP repeater #4686 FM, or the local DSTAR repeater KJ4JAL-C, or on a LEO satellite over the east coast of North America, or on HF PSK 31 ops on 80, 40 and 20M . Also look for me in the Fall and summer VHF sweepstakes operating on the Blue Ridge Parkway on 144.2MHz. USB.
