Founded in 1955, the Riverside County Amateur Radio Association(RCARA) has been a pre-eminent hub of amateur radio activity in Southern California's largest region, the Inland Empire. We are a ARRL affiliated club (# 1720).
Our W6TJ call sign was that of Harry Crawford (1904-1959), a former member, and noted Riverside DXer. Harry, who at the age of 14, was licensed as "6TJ". In 1939 he became the 114th DXCC recipient (11th in the 6th call district.)
We are a diverse and lively club of approximately one hundred members. We participate in public service and demonstration activities as well as the annual ARRL Field Day. We are entrusted with and maintain the W6TJ repeater located atop the Riverside County Administration Building in Historic Downtown Riverside.
The RCARA meetings are held at the La Sierra University Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4937 Sierra Vista Ave, Riverside, CA on the 2nd Thursday of each month beginning at 7:00 PM. A Talk-in is on the W6TJ 2M Repeater- 146.88 MHz, Offset minus 600 KHz, PL 146.2 Hz.
The club provides communications support during many Public Service Events throughout the year. A weekly RACES net is held to foster emergency preparedness every Monday evening at 7:15 PM on the W6TJ club repeater (146.88 MHz, -600 KHz offset with a PL of 146.2 Hz). This 2M Monday net provides bulletins of upcoming club activities and events. It is also possible to check into the Net via the W6TJ Box Springs 224.460 MHz repeater ( -1.6 MHz offset and PL of 110.9 Hz) which is linked to our 2M repeater.
