KA9PAZ -- The Voice of Livonia!
A Third Generation Ham...

Hi there everyone!  Thanks for visiting my QRZ page!  I'm glad to meet you!  While I'm licensed out of Indiana, I primarily operate in EN82.  I'm a General-class operator.  I also hold a Restricted Radiotelephone Operators' Permit and am also the Chairman of Vectorscope Labs [W9RCN].  You can also catch me surfing around the APRS mode, identifying as KA9PAZ-7.

I grew up with the hobby with my Dad [KA9PAY] and my grandfather [N9AVH-SK], I knew a lot going in... but I've still got a lot more learning to do!  With longtime friends like Ron W8RPM, and new friends like Colin W8CMC and others who are too numerous to name, how can I fail?

To give you some "Who I am," I'm a Graduate Student at Eastern Michigan University, studying Public Administration (the "Business of Government," if you will).  After I get my Masters, I've got my eye set on a Ph.D. in policy or some other public administration program.  The social sciences have always fascinated me, and with any luck, one day, when I grow up [says the guy who's 31], I'll be in a place to help people.  Occupation-wise, I work in commercial escrow for a national title agency.  I'm the guy who helps ensure you get clean title when you buy real property.

With the awesome help of people like Ron and the awesome VEs at the Hazel Park ARC, I passed my General exam in 2015 -- I continue to learn in practice itself, which makes it all the more fun for me!  My current on-air toys include the Motorola XPR 5550, a Motorola XPR 7550, and other goodies too, like Motolola Systems Astro Saber II P25s... but I've also inherited a lot from my Dad, who's as excited as I am to get on the air.  My current base radios are the Midland Syn-Tech II XTRs pictured to the right, which I usually monitor my favorite repeaters listed below, and my quad-band TYT TH-9800, which has been put on mobile duty along with my 5550; but I have an Icom IC-756 Pro II being added shortly, loaded up to a Hygain DX-88.

I also credit my good friend Emmett KB3MPN and TrekFan for getting me on the air.  With his gift of my Baofeng and Gordon West's 2014 Technician Book, it re-sparked my interest in Amateur Radio.  Thanks, Emmett!  I also operate Experimental Station KA9PAZ/X1, which is an experimental IRLP project.

Also, I'm a member of the Livonia Amateur Radio Club, one of the larger and more active Clubs in the area.  If you're interested in Amateur Radio, or just want to see what a club atmosphere is like, let me know!  I'd love to have you join us as my guest at a club meeting!  I'm also a member of the RADAR Group, which maintains the best and one of the largest repeater networks in the State of Michigan.  I'm also a Star Trek fan -- and love playing on Star Trek Online!  Feel free to reach out to me if you wanna play, sometime!

While I get the rest of this built up, my usual hangouts and monitors are below.  :-)

Best 73, and drop me a line!  I'd be happy to receive your QSO!

-- Samuel
