Welcome to my page!

I fly Radio Controlled aircraft of all types, (airplanes, helicopters and multirotors "drones") some of which have cameras and transmitters on the 5.8GHz band. For this reason I decided to get my Technician license so that I can fly legally. These are some of my aircraft...

During my studies, I started to listen to the local repeaters on my scanner and thought it sounded fun. My first radio was/is Baofeng UV-5R. This radio doesn't see much use.
My primary rigs are...
Yaesu FTR3200DR mobile rig running off a  "J" pole that I built and mounted in my attic (2M)
Kenwood TM-701A mobile radio running off an Antenna Specialists w/mag mount in my van (2M/440)
Yaesu FT-101EE  running off an Antron 99 about 30' in the air.
I have a 30' tower that I plan to erect at the back of my house sometime this summer...
(Update! Too many other things came up this summer so the tower has been put off till Summer 2017).

I am mostly on 2m, 10m and a little on 11m (I know no one likes the CB but for me, it's fun. Besides I have a few friends that still use 11m). You may also find me somewhere on Echo-link.

I use the logbook here on QRZ primarily for contacts and awards, but I also use eQSO (I have received their Authenticity Guarantee) and LBoTW...

My plan is to upgrade to General in November 2016, if my studies go as planned. I will also read up and give the Extra test an honest try when I upgrade.

Now that I've gotten my feet wet so to speak, I've started to find more parts of this hobby that I enjoy. I've always been a tinkerer, ever since I was a kid, I always liked to take things apart just to see how they worked. If something was broken, I wouldn't think twice about digging into it to see what the problem is and see if I can fix it. Today I find myself looking on the forums and eBay searching for inexpensive radios that may have issues. I look at it this way, If I can fix it, I'll use it... If a fellow ham is in need, I have something I can loan or give them. If I can't fix it, I use it for parts. If you have an old radio that you want to donate or sell, let me know my email is good here...
