My name is: John A ( Jack ) Kreno.  This is a vanity call ( KR3NO, my last name is KRENO ). The FCC only knows me as John A. so that's what I'm called here in QRZ.  I have an Associates Degree in Electronics but no particular expertise in RF.  In the past, I've repaired many different types of electronic equipment (from soup to nuts so to speak).  I've enjoyed Ham Radio since a very young age but didn't get a ticket until age 29 (lack of an Elmer to show me the ropes of getting through the licensing process).  Such a waste of time as a youngster, I was an avid SWL along with Ham band listener.  I remember the AM days before guys migrated to SSB.  I love electronic gadgets, admittedly they are not as natural for me to figure out as when I was a younger guy, must be the (VCR of  an earlier generation) syndrome.  Cell phones are especially difficult to maneuver as they get more complicated or I get further behind in technology take your pick.  I'm retired, so plenty of time to 'play amateur radio'.  I have  a number of rigs including an Icom IC-756, IC-746 Pro, IC-7000 a Flex 3000.  I also have a Flex 1500, which is one of the best purchases I have made in Ham radio for the price.  My present antenna is an end fed wire 73 feet long.  Thank you apartment living.  I no longer have a DX Engineering 43' vertical which is undoubtedly the best DX antenna I've ever used (again thank you apartment living).  I operate low bands mostly (40M and 80M) EARLY in the morning (between 1AM and 5:30AM local Eastern time).  I like the challenge of working DX on the low bands.  The Amp I run is an AEA LA-30.  It's a single 3-500Z tube and will run 700 watts+, I run it at 500-600watts.  I also have a solid state HLA 300 Plus  by RM.  Things have changed again after a divorce so the house is gone and retirement facility here we are.
