My first license (Novice) as KN2GKK at Lakewood, NY was issued on 30 November 1953.  The Novice exam was taken at FCC District 20 office in Buffalo, NY.  I received a Technician ticket about 10 months later to hold onto my callsign.  I finally made the 13 wpm in January of 1955.  Tech and General exams were also taken at the Buffalo, NY FCC office.  I upgraded to Advanced around 1973 and full coded Extra in 1979.  These exams were at Oklahoma City,  OK during quarterly visits from the Dallas, TX FCC office.

I went into the Air Force in February 1961 after graduation from State University of New York - Albany in May 1960.  I retired from the Air Force at the end of February 1981.

I worked as an avionics tech for about 3 years until the oil bust, then worked at a 2-way shop owned by a ham (Elmo Black, W5JCB/SK) until late 1993.  I became an electronic tech for the Federal Aviation Administration in 1994 and retired from the FAA at the end of August 2010.

I held DL4AM in Raunheim am Main and Wiesbaden in what was still West Germany between late 1967 and late 1971 and then I was reassigned to Tinker  AFB in Oklahoma City, OK.  I remained at Tinker AFB until my USAF retirement on 28 Feb 1981 except for a 10 month tour to a remote radar site at Hofn in SE Iceland from Aug 77 through Apr 78.

I have also been the QSL manager for W6K (Oklahoma City group) for the 2012, 2013, 2014, AND 2015 Route 66 On The Air (OTA) operating events.  I will NOT do the same for the 2016 edition of the Route 66 event but the QSL address will remain my FCC License address.  SASE is mandatory for a return QSL within USA.  For other than USA QSOs/QSLs, appropriate funds or US stamp(s) are requested.  My wife KA5BJS and I are QSL managers for ONLY the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 events.  The QSL address for Route 66 OTA QSOs remains my licensed mailing address at least through the 2016 edition.

NOTE:   The P.O. Box number is 15462.  Do NOT add an "M" as it confuses tha hell out of the Post Office folks!

Thanks!

p.s.  Spelling of my last name is:  Macdonald
