I have always been interested in Amateur Radio, but only became licensed recently. Although I am now retired, my experence has taken me through the fire service and emergency management, emergency room work, and interest in emergency medical services. I became an EMT in 1972 and Paramedic in 1978. To make a long story short, I retired as the Director of Emergency Medical Service for the State of Oklahoma. We supported EMS development in Oklahoma for about 20 years of tenture .. vehicle standards, training, licensing, communications, trauma system and all other aspects of the need for urgent care [including the Murrah Bombing incident]. Developed the Oklahoma Wide Area Communication Plan for the State of Oklahoma [Ambulance and Hospital communications]. Ex member of the Council of Fire Fighter Training, Oklahoma Inter-operative Council of Homeland Security, and many other groups to enhanse communications in Oklahoma. So, I have always been close to HF, VHF and UHF communication in Public Sevice agencies .... so now I enjoy Amateur Radio, very much, and have utilized these skills in several disasters since retirement. Now you know why I chose 'K5EMS' as my vanity call.
